Perpetual String Legacy in Honor of Zane
November 6, 2021
Good Morning and Happy Saturday! I had an uplifting call last night and thought I'd share something that's in the works with you all.
Fellow Orchestra mom and good friend Jill Wacker rang me last night to tell me she and others have been secretly talking about honoring Zane's legacy within the Orchestra programs at the schools he attended. We are fortunate that both the Directors he learned and performed under are still in their positions at Maitland Middle School (Lisa Hopko Loucks) and Winter Park High School (Laurie Bitters). So, the idea is to create a fund/endowment that allows each school to receive stringed instruments for their programs so students who can't afford an instrument can be provided with one. Initial goal is one instrument for each program annually and I think that's a goal within reach. And perhaps it can grow in perpetuity. Some action items are in place to get the ball rolling.
I'm thrilled that Zane's legacy can be seeded in the music program and grow in the hands and hearts of new young musicians. Details will come as they develop. #SkateboardingViolinistZaner
This also brings me back to the mementos left behind at Zane's Celebration of Life. These items (and others) were left behind from Zane's Orchestra family. The photo is from Channah Weinstein from a Halloween performance they had with WPHS, The violin ornament from the Wacker family, and I'm actually not sure about the polishing cloth and resin. Maybe someone will come forward and take responsibility for that donation?
