Full Vent to CPAP Trials

Well, hello. Zane did well in the night with his new trach ventilator setup. The tubes in his mouth and down his throat are a thing of the past. The next step to get him out of the ICU is to get off the vent altogether and move to a trach collar, where he only gets a little bit of O2 assistance as needed. So, they've turned off his Presedex sedation a bit ago, and set his vent at 40% (Cpap setting) and he's undergoing a breathing trial. Fingers crossed he keeps calm and regulates his breathing. Here's a screenshot of how he's doing. I could explain it all, but just know that the numbers look good.

In the neurology department, there hasn't been any significant change in Zane's responsiveness. But he hasn't gone backward. His eyes still aren't tracking, but he is moving his arms and legs. Just a bit ago, I applied some Vaseline to his lips and he lifted his left arm to his head in response. That's a first and is a hopeful sign for things to come!

Keep Zane in your thoughts today. I have to leave him for a bit to handle some bank thing on his behalf because some inept bank manager couldn't do it with my family Friday. So I won't be happy to be away and she may know this when I get there!
