Moving the Needle Ever So Slowly
Hello all! Your positive energy and prayers are working!!! Zane hasn't awoken yet from his vegetative state fully yet, but he is starting to ever so slowly. He hasn't had any other cardiac events since Wednesday night, so that's very good news. This morning, respiratory therapy has reduced his vent air and is giving him more opportunity to do more breathing on his own. He does get agitated and does a great deal of coughing and has had to have the air re-increased or a small sedation med introduced to make him more comfortable.
He still hasn't responded to stimuli, but his movements seem more purposeful, whereas before there was upward eye gazing and rolling and a lot of neurotic twitching in the face and hands. Today, his gaze is staying less erratic and his agitation, while scary for us (and certainly for him) is a sign that he's fighting to come around. We need to wean this process slowly so there isn't any undo stress on any of his systems.
We still don't know what to expect when Zane is fully awake, so prayers and good vibes are still requested as there is strength in numbers. He's doing a great job so far and you are all helping greatly. We are so thankful for all of you.
I have been given the opportunity to see my family in the parking lot at the entrance of the hospital, where they can bring me meals and we have an hour together, spatially distanced, but together nonetheless. Here's a photo of us channeling Zane's inner favorite superhero, Spider-Man. When he was a young one, he wandered around 100% sure he was Spider-Man. He is our hero! #MakeZaneBetter
