4th Cardiac Event. Need a Miracle!

Hi. Well this is tough. Zane has had his 4th cardiac event within 36 hours this evening. There are still no answers. But there’s a team here at Methodist and our team back at St. Jude are all working to find them.

Which brings me to the point of this post. Zane is an adult with a childhood brain cancer called medullablastoma. This isn’t common but St. Jude will accept patients with this diagnosis until age 25. This was a very lucky break for him. They are the mother ship of pediactric cancer treatment. There is no place better.

Zane’s new issues are cardiac related and therefore he has been sent elsewhere to Methodist in Midtown Memphis. St. Jude does not have an ER. Patients must be accepted based on their diagnosis and must meet protocol criteria. So we are in an adult hospital in ICU. Due to COVID, no visitors are allowed on the ICU floor. They’ve made a special dispensation for me since I am Zane’s 24 hour caregiver. There are no frills. No parent suite with room service like back at St. Jude. I have a chair in his small glassed room that reclines. The bathroom is down a hall (Unisex and used by everyone) and I’m not allowed to leave the floor, not even to go to cafeteria. There is no accces right now to the Family Center for showers. Not asking for a pity party, just clearing up that we aren’t in our normal Ferrari that is St. Jude. We are in a busted, rusted Fiero with a flat tire if I were to make an apt analogy. The staff are great. I have no complaints. Only painting the picture.

Even here though, we all work very hard to #MakeZaneBetter
