Hello, Chemo, our old friend. (not)
Hello from Memphis, where Zane is receiving his first round of post-radiation treatment. Zane was admitted inpatient at St. Jude Thursday, after arriving back for treatment on Monday, so they waste no time at all. His MRI, PET and CT scans all came back showing no new growth, mets or any negative surprises at all. So, that was great news! And...we also got some incredible news outside of that as well, but I'll save that for the close of this post!
We are back on the 5th floor...the Space floor. I've attached some photos of the view, halls and wall art. At first, Zane was up and watching movies and playing X-box. But chemo started Thursday evening and these rounds of chemo are more intense than what Zane got back in December and January. For you medical types or for those just curious, he's on Vincristine, Cisplatin and Cyclophosphamide for chemo meds. Of those, he only had the Cyclophosphamide in the past. He had Carboplatin before, which is a kissing cousin to Cisplatin, but the latter is the meaner bully of the family. Bottom line, these meds are some serious ass-kickers and while Zane is champing through, he's already feeling the nausea side effects and is either sleeping or getting sick (and wishing he was sleeping). But, if he tolerates that last dose he is receiving today, it's possible we will go home tomorrow, two days ahead of schedule!
