We've Run for the Hills!

Hello all! We have made it to the mountains! Hello Virginia! We are happy to see you, even though it wasn't in the plan! Our hosts had a wonderful dinner ready upon our arrival and we feel blessed to be here. We made just two stops on the way. One was just to snap the obligatory photo in front of the caddy at the Pink Cadillac (a diner that Elvis rather liked).

The second stop was to see Natural Bridge. We've attempted to see this natural wonder a few times in the past, but they were shut. They were open yesterday, though (surprising), so here are the photos of this super cool spot.

Originally surveyed in 1750 and estimated to be about 500 million years old, Natural Bridge has served as a trade route early on by the Monacan Indians. George Washington was pa

rt of the 1750 survey team, led by Peter Jefferson (uncle to Thomas Jefferson). In one photo here, there is a small white box. Zoom in and those are the "GW" initials George Washington carved into the rock. In 1774, Thomas Jefferson purchased Natural Bridge (and surrounding 157 acres) from King George III for 20 shillings. Jefferson owned the property until his death. It went through various private owners, becoming a Virginia State Park in 2016 and will now be protected in perpetuity, as Jefferson had always wanted.
