Introducing the Radiation Treatment Socks...and some other news.
Hello All! Zane has now completed 5 photon radiation treatments, so it seems a good time for an update. If you're getting caught up, Zane completed two rounds of chemo, zapped out the metastatic disease (bony lesions) in the pelvic bone area, and we are back to Plan A - 6 weeks (30 treatments) of radiation.
The good news is the actual radiation sessions aren't bothering him too much at all. He is champing through that, despite the tight mask and having to lay completely still for the session. He says there are no sensations (burning, tingling, etc.), apart from the laser and flashing light show, which he can close his eyes to. It's also not like an MRI where all this pinging, knocking and banging about is on, and the sessions are far shorter than an MRI. So that's all the good news.
There really isn't any BAD news....it's just the headaches came back fiercer than ever after Dose 1. That evening was brutal. The worst he's experienced yet. It was a very tough night. We had a chat with all the docs (oncology, neuro, and primary tumor) and a twist on the headache maintenance was put in place and I will have to say it's working. The headaches have leveled out and apart from having some days of fatigue, all is well.
