Radiation Therapy: Proton vs Photon?
Hello Facebookland! The big game is over and now it's time for Zane's big game. Tomorrow, he puts on his mesh mask, gets his game face in place, and radiation begins. He will have 30 sessions in total, Monday through Friday daily. After the first 20 photon sessions, an assessment will happen to see if the last 10 need any fine-tuning adjustments, such as switch to proton therapy.
So why photon (classic radiation) over proton (more precise beamed)? It's because of Zane's previous spread into bony lesions in his pelvic area. Although those seem to be under control, the radiation oncologist, Dr. Lucas, feels it's better to stick with classic photon and he won't "miss" any areas that are laser-focused with proton. Given Zane's age and some other factors, we've obviously agreed and signed off on treatment.
So, engines on and we hit the gas at 9:30 tomorrow morning. Hang on for the ride ahead. We hope for a smooooth ride.
Meanwhile, Zaner got his personal 4-wheel ride put together whilst watching the SuperBowl. #MakeZaneBetter
