Shunt Adjusting...Are We #3?

Hey, hey, hey. One last medical post to close out the week. MRIs went perfectly fine. Zane had his brain MRI yesterday, the spine today. We are becoming old hat at this! I even remembered both days to wear yoga pants, no bra, tank-top, T-shirt (no, that isn't a dress code...it just happens to be all metal/wire-free!!)

After an MRI, he must have his brain shunt "inspected." For those who haven't been along since the start, after Zane's craniotomy, his brain was still overproducing spinal fluid, so an internal PV shunt was surgically inserted. This shunt allows just the right amount of fluid to run its proper course and forces the excess down into his stomach where it becomes waste. He will likely ALWAYS have this shunt. It's magnetic and can be dialed up and down using a magnet outside his ear. So, after messing around with magnetics in an MRI, the shunt must be checked to be sure it's functioning properly. His is set at Level 3.

Well, yesterday, it took two of his nurses to inspect it. It was being wonky. Kept floating around at 5. We decided to give it a pass and worry about it later (so long as there were no headaches or other worrisome symptoms) since there was another MRI today. Today, miraculously, it was back to 3, where it should be and the worry of having it looked at more closely (or worse, replaced) is gone!

So, have a great weekend everyone! We plan to! #MakeZaneBetter #GoZaneGo
